CVShuffle Map

To see a map of the currently selected shuffle, click on Map from the CVShuffle Main Page. Here you will see two stacks of cards. The stack on the left shows the cards before the shuffle. The stack on the right shows the cards after the shuffle. Colors are used to show the location of cards. For example, if you took colored magic markers and colored each deck in a shoe a different color, and then shuffled the cards, the colors would show you where the decks ended up. That is the basic objective of this screen, with a few more options. You can use the various combinations of options to locate shuffle weaknesses. That is, where groups of cards in the from stack (pre-shuffle) tend to regularly end up in the to stack (post-shuffle.)

Visual Options

Ø Extend Lines - When this option is off, you will see only lines drawn from one stack to the other showing where each card has been moved. When on, the cards will also be marked.

Ø Paint - When this option is off, clicking on options or Reshuffle will have an instantaneous effect. When on, the cards will be slowly painted on the screen to better show the pattern of cards appearing in the other stack. Click Reshuffle to repaint the lines.

Ø Show Numbers - When on, two grids of numbers will be displayed. Each grid has two columns. One row exists for each card in the segment definition below. The grids show the exact card paths. For example, a one in the left column and a 178 in the right column means that card 1 before the shuffle will end up in position 178 after the shuffle. Colors will match the card markings.

Ø Post Plug - If off, then the stack on the right will consist of the cards from the discard tray with the un-played cards on the top. If the option is on, the stack on the right will represent the cards after the first time one pile exists. For example, if the dealer takes three grabs from the un-played cards and inserts them into the discards, the left stack will represent the cards after all three plugs have taken place.

Ø Horizontal - If you prefer you can view the decks horizontally. The decks and lines will be rotated.

Segment Definition

These options define the cards to be colored. It is much easier to look at a group of cards at a time.

Ø Seg Size & Num - When this option is on, you will be able to specify a segment size and which segment to color. These are specified by the two spin controls just under the option. For example, if segment size is 26 and segment is 2, only the second half deck will be colored. You can see where the second half deck in the from pile ends up in the to pile or where the second half-deck in the to pile comes from. You can quickly click on the segment number to cycle through the stacks one segment of cards at a time.

Ø From & To Card - This option allows you to set the exact cards to be colored in the spin controls below.

Ø Show it All - This colors all cards.

Line Origin

Ø From Stack - When on, segments are colored in the from stack to show where the cards end up in the to stack.

Ø To Stack - When on, segments are colored in the to stack to show where each card came from.

Colors

Ø All Red - All cards have the same color.

Ø One deck bands - Cards are colored one color for each deck.

Ø Half deck bands - Cards are colored by half deck.

Ø Quarter deck bands - Cards are colored by quarter decks.

Ø By card - Each card is a different color cycling through 16 colors.

Ø By SS - Here you can use the spinner to enter your own custom segment size.

Precision

The Precision options control the exactness of the shuffle. Each step has a plus or minus variability number. The higher these number the sloppier a shuffle. You can temporarily  override these settings with these options.

Ø Exact - When this option is on, all plus/minus numbers are temporarily zeroed. That is, a perfect shuffle takes place. All steps take place without any variability.

Ø As Defined - When this option is on, the variability numbers that you have defined into the shuffle are used. You will note that the patterns after riffles are not as clean. You can click on reshuffle to shuffle with different random numbers. The lines will change a bit. Repeatedly hit Reshuffle to see the effect of many shuffles.

Ø Sloppy - When set, all variability is temporarily doubled. If you have set any plus/minus numbers to zero, non-zero numbers will be used. You can hit Reshuffle a few times to see the effect on many shuffles.

Ø Reshuffle - Click to shuffle the cards with the same or different precision. If the precision is not exact, the map will change.

Ø Analyze - Click to further analyze the shuffle segments.

It is usually easier to start by looking at an exact shuffle and then change to As Defined. Sloppy is used to see the worst case.

Copy

If the Show Numbers option is on, two copy buttons will be displayed. Click a copy button to copy the exact card number pairs to the Windows clipboard. You can then paste them into another Windows application like Excel.
