PenetrationNext, we switch from rules to penetration. The chart displays double-deck, six-deck and eight-deck games separately. Single-deck is not included as penetration is highly dependent on the number of players present. Red bars indicate double-deck, so we see that overall in the U.S. double-deck games have a 60% penetration. In shoe games, we do not see a great deal of difference in penetration. However, remember that, unlike rules, penetration can vary substantially from dealer to dealer and shuffle to shuffle if the casino does not have a notch in the shoe to fix the location of the cut card. In addition, the actual depth dealt depends on the number of players. When you add the fact that modern shuffles take longer than those in earlier days, I believe that this chart suggests that casinos throw away a massive amount of money shuffling more often than needed while impatient gamblers sit twiddling their thumbs.
