Creating a Blackjack Strategy

Comparative SimsOnce you have created the indexes, and even while you are creating them, you will want to run sims with different rules and penetrations to test your system. CVData can do this automatically after the indexes are generated. But CVCX is much easier for making quick comparisons. With CVCX, you can run many different penetrations, rules, spreads, and decks at once. You can also ask it to compare the strategy with all of the strategies in the CVCX archives. There are over 150,000 sims in the archives. The best method of evaluating the overall strength of a strategy is by using the SCORE as described in Blackjack Attack. Following is an example of a comparison chart from CVCX. Here we see how two strategies compare over a range of penetrations. At the far left, the dealer has cut off two and one-half out of six decks. On the far right, the dealer has cut off one half-deck. So, we have the SCOREs for penetrations from 130 to 26 cards by the card. What we see is that one strategy wins at all but the deepest penetrations. But we do not care about those penetrations. So even though the strategy in blue has the very highest SCOREs possible, the strategy in red has higher SCOREs in penetrations that we care about. When testing compromise indexes or other minor changes, we will often find that one index works better at some penetrations but worse at others. We need to tune the strategy to our needs. This is done using the Charts button in CVCX and is possible because CVCX runs all reasonable penetrations at once. www.qfit.com/book/chart2002.gif
