How Blackjack Works

What is the advantage at different depths? Since we see more high counts (as well as low counts) at deeper penetrations and high counts have a higher advantage, and we bet more at the high counts than at the low counts, we experience an overall higher advantage at deeper parts of the shoe. This chart is a bit different as it displays the advantage by the round number for 43 rounds in a shoe. We start at a negative expectation and, on average, expectation grows as we travel more deeply into the shoe. It should be noted that a balanced strategy like Hi-Lo performs quite differently than an unbalanced strategy like K-O. The red Hi-Lo advantage grows in a fairly straight line. The green K-O line does not grow at all for the first several hands and does not enjoy an advantage until later in the shoe. It then grows quickly and has a greater advantage than Hi-Lo in K-Os sweet spot. Unbalanced strategies have sweet spots where they perform the best.
